The low lying valley of the upper River Forth was an impassable marsh and, over the years, this land was drained for agriculture except for an area known as Flanders Moss.

Kippen lies on the slopes of the Gargunnock Hills and has spectacular views of the Cruachan Mountain Range beyond Callander.
